Magazine Article Development

Below are two magazine articles which have been produced, and the final product is still underway. The first image is the closest to the final product, as there were a few problems with the second article. For example, it looked slightly like a poster and not a magazine article, there are no distinctive columns, it is not adapted in comparison to a normal magazine article and finally it had more of the vanilla band image rather than a magazine brand image. Therefore, many changes had to be made too it.

Digipak Advert Research

This is our inspiration for our digipak advert. We liked this advert as it had a strong but subtle effect, this is as there isn't a lot of writing due to the pictures being so bold. As you can see the album cover is in the right hand bottom corner and both of the images on the advert link well together. You can then see the name of the album across the picture and then the names of some of the songs included within the album named in the bottom left hand corner.

This is our first draft of our digipak advert, as you can see we have a strong picture of us in the background which is slightly faded, but also it has the magenta tint overlay on it in order to match the Rihanna one as best as possible, but also to match our synergy colour of pastel pink. As you can see our advert almost matches the one of our inspiration, we have tried to make our album cover look like a stamp in the middle of the page in order to make it stand out and be bold. We also then have our logo at the top which stands out, and also both of the pictures link well together due to the outfits and the scenery around them.

Interview Research

This is a presentation of the planning of our interviews, it was important to plan what we were going to give away to our fans because we didn't want them to know too much as we wanted some parts to be a surprise.

Digipak Research

Album Covers
Firstly, as we were performing and creating the video in the style of country music we went about researching different country albums so we found a variety of different country albums and a few other as well to get a range and make sure we had enough research to get our own digipak to a high quality. These are the different ideas we had.

Banana Phone

For this task we were given a range of shots that we had to include in the video. The first shot that we did was filming a person sitting down with the monitor window open with another camera filming the monitor, I feel that this shot went really well as we matched it exactly to the example shot that we were given. The second shot that I included was the cloning shot, I feel that this shot went kind of well but also I feel it could have been better, this is due to the fact that the shots weren't in time with the music. The third shot that I included was the depth of the field task, this is where we held an object up and made it the same size as a person who was standing a away form the camera. The fourth shot that I did in this video was the reverse shot, I feel this went really well as we had some cool jump shots and also some interesting shots when we was throwing the ball and the banana. The fifth shot we included was wheelchair/trolly shot, this shot went well as we did a dolly shot where we followed the person on the trolly. The final shot that I included was the lego animation, this is where we took around 60 photos of  lego, we moved the lego in each picture to make it more of an animated story. This shot didn't go very well as the lego pictures were too zoomed in and we didn't really plan the animated story we were making out.

Audience

How do you consume music?

When? Do you have a daily routine? Is some music more suitable at a certain time of day than another?

Music is a big part of my daily routine, I often listen to music when getting dressed in the morning as I feel like this gets me in a good mood and gets me read for the day ahead. I also listen to music on the way to school in the car. When working in lesson I eel that music helps me to concentrate and get my work done. Sometimes when I'm feeling down I will maybe listen to sad songs because I can relate them to the mod that I am in, but also when I am feeling happy I will listen to upbeat songs that I really enjoy.

Gigs, Car, School?

I enjoy listening to music at festivals, for example I went to V festival this year and also last year and enjoyed the music that was played there, it was also more enjoyable because the music was live by the artists. I also enjoy listening to music in the car when traveling, this is because it makes the journey more fun. When revising I feel music helps me to concentrate more and also when doing work at school I feel that it helps me to focus more.

How? Radio, Ipod, Computer, TV, Live?

I often listen to music with my phone as this is the easiest way for me to do so when I'm at home. At school, I sometimes listen to music through the computer from YouTube so that I don't get distracted by my phone in lesson. When in the car, I often use my aux lead which allows me to plug my phone in and play music in the car through my phone, however, I sometime listen to the radio.

Why? What are the pleasures associated with music consumption? What does it offer the audience and what does it need to gratify?

I listen to music as I enjoy it very much, I feel it helps me focus at school but I also feel that it's something fun when I'm on my own as well as with my friends.

Little Mix are a really inspirational band who have been becoming more and more famous since winning the X Factor in 2011. Over the years they have won many awards such as Brit Award for British Single, Kids Choice Award for Favorite Global Star, Glamour Award for Band and many more.
As a band they promote strong and independent women, this is mainly shown through their music, for example their song 'Shout out to my ex' , 'Power' and 'Wings'.

They promote their band in ways such as their website and their social media. By having lots of information available on these pages, it makes it easy for their fans to access their tours, music and images and information about the band.

Fifth Harmony are a girl band, following their exit form the American X Factor they released a single in which the music video for this won the MTV Video Music Award for Artist To Watch.

The band again promotes themselves through social media and their website. These are great ways to give their fans information about what's coming out when and also when they're performing next and where. Also, the fans can see what the band is up to in their daily lives and many more things such as merchandise.

Similar Website Research

This is a slide share on what makes a good website, it was important that we did some research on this was we wanted to ensure that our website was the best that it could be. We found out that it was good to have a striking image on the front page to lure our audience in. We had to make sure that we had a name for our website so we are able to be found by our fans, we had to make sure we had a good sign relating to us as a band and we also found out that contact information is vital to have on the website.

Goodwin Task

Conventions:

Andrew Goodwin came up with six different conventions that are shown in music videos to differentiate them from each other. These are:

1. A relationship between the lyrics and the visuals, which illustrate, amplify or contradict the lyrics.
2. Thought beats- seeing the sound (relationship between the music and the visuals) For example hearing the drums.
3. Genre related style and iconography present- by looking at it without the music would you know the genre?
4. Multiple close ups of the main artist - the creation of a star image to promote to a recognizable brand image.
5. Voyeurism often plays a major part, especially in relation to females.
6. Inter textual references to other media texts may be present, especially in humerus videos. Taking things from other videos.
